Because mine is almost touching it.

 

my 97 4x4 and 96 2wd are the same, on my dads 95 2wd it just about is hitting the firewall, and frame, i think thats how it is on all of them.

 

Oh yeah, mine is real close. It's actually touching a hose on the other side, but I put another hose over it. Does yours touch the hose? I don't like that.

 

Mines close but doesn't touch anything I wouldn;t worrie about it

 

Mine is the same. Real close to the frame and the bell housing.

Mine is pretty darn close, barely enough room for the header wrap.

 

whose downpipes are you using? being close to the bell is a non-issue... I built a 5" downpipe for a single turbo back in the day and had no clearance issues

 

My 4" is touching the frame in my dually. Its actually clearanced itself a bit, but when the engine torques over it is against the frame, causing bigger drone than there should be. I don't know what brand it is, its from PDW when I bought my SPS. My MBRB down pipe cleared fine though.

I think the one I've been running on my last two trucks came from II. I built my own before that

 

One 4" I installed touched the frame and made a heck of a racket.
It was an auto and had the choice of hitting the frame or the tranny cooling tubes.
Ended up flatening one side of the pipe with a hammer to make it clear.

 

ahh, I didn't even consider automatic fluid lines

there is TONS of room in there, it's a shame companies are putting out ill-fitting pipes!

 

Mine isn't exactly a great fit either. Touches the bellhousing and goes too low to clear the crossmember.. Like Tate, it touches on a good torque load.

 

I always build my systems so that the downpipe terminates in front of the tranny crossmember. makes removal for maintenence easier!
