That's disgusting, but very funny

My cat is welded to the down pipe, clamped to the muffler.
My 98 had a straight pipe when I bought it, the guy had the original
cat/muffler pipe in his barn, so I had it welded on before I brought the truck to CA. thought I would need it for inspection, I've registered my truck in CA twice, and nobody ever looked...

Yes they will.

Could you spell that out for me?
I mean, is this just a pipe that clamps to downpipe and bolts onto muffler or?

It's been a long time since I did this so my memory is a little fuzzy. The resonator has basically the same dimensions as the cat. Inlet is 3" and outlet is 4". The 3" side just clamps to the downpipe. The original muffler has a 4" inlet and 3" outlet. When I did mine I had already eliminated both the cat and muffler with a 3" pipe.
The drone at highway speeds was just too annoying for me so I rounded up a resonator. I had to get a 4" to 3" reducer since I wasn't going to use the muffler. All was well in diesel land after that.
The resonator and cat do not look the same so I can't say it would pass for emission testing by a qualified tester but it is straight through for less restriction.

I believe all 24 valves up to the 3rd generation had them. You would probably have better luck finding one on the boards here. I'm sure someone has upgraded to a 4" exhaust and has one laying around.
