High EGT

While pulling some small hills, pulling a empty car hauler(16'er). My EGT would reach 1200*, 24lbs of boost, <2000 rpm, at about 75mph. At the top of the hills my EGT's would drop to 700* to 900*.
My pyro is in the exhaust manifold, rear cylinders half!
Does this seem excessive?
Whats the limit for EGT's
I have a call into Banks, but they already have my money soooooo!

This sure was making me uneasy!

Thanks for any input.........

Ken

75 up a hill at 2000rpm even that small of a load is pretty big when you consider everything, that is kinda on the lugging side. just driving around what are egts and boost?

Just cruising around, normal EGT's run around 500* to 600* and 4 to 6 lbs of boost.

Still haven't heard from Banks. My check has cleared thats why, I guess!

Thanks

It's the Banks plate, and it's positioned where the stock plate was. Not sure if that helps or not. Banks includes in the kit a gage to position the new plate in the same position as stock.
The locals here tell me to sell the Banks stuff on ebay and start over!

Thanks for the help, hope I can get this figured out!

I wish I was that low! At 65 w/ my 3500# car hauler empty I fight to keep it below 1400 with 1600 just a nudge away. I did manage to drop my EGT's by about 200 degress (resulting with above temps) by cleaning my air filter

well the 215's and 181's are definatly enough to peg a pyro. but still i hauled about 20K with a 100 a couple years ago when i had that set up and i got away with 1100* . now that was with a properly tuned afc.

Tinker,
You are good to go at 1200 degrees. I run my motorhome(24,000 lbs) at that climbing long hills and haven't had a problem.
Don't worry and keep the Banks- they know what they are doing.

banks know what they are doing but with a profiled plate and that little weight is nothing, he shouldnt see that much heat.

Shouldn't be that high, its stock for his motor. I'm running about 800* doing the same thing, check for air leaks in your intercooler, make sure all your boots are tight, get a new air filter, and check the turbo to make sure its not filthy...if it is hit it up with some carb cleaner and get the gunk off of it, make sure you dry it with something lint free, compressed air seems to work the best.

Thanks everyone...
The Banks system is new. I installed a NAPA 6637 BHAF, set the stock housing and K&N, provided by Banks aside for now, the blades on the turbo were black when I installed them on the Banks Quick turbo housing. I blew alot of soot off of the blades at that time. I do remember the hose going from the air inlet(from intercooler) to the actuator for the gate was a pain putting on the fiting. Maybe it's lose at that point. I will check the intercooler connections and make sure there are no leaks. I still get 24+lbs of boost on acceleration.

Thanks
Ken

Well, to give you some idea, I pull about 39psi of boost with the 97, so your well low. Just for kicks, plug the wastegate and see what you get. If your under 30 your loosing boost somewhere, even with the 14cm housing Banks gives ya.
