high egt's
I'm still experiencing high egt's even when not towing. I can't use full throttle. I'm thinking my #11 plate needs to be slid back to near stock position. Any thoughts on this?
1997 dually 5 spd 4x4, Scotty 11, 370's, 3k gsk, 15.5*, 16cm housing, 4" exhaust
Andy

Re:high egt's
Normal highway cruising ; 500-700 deg. pre turbo
Going up a slight grade or accellerating hard ; 1200 and up depending on how hard I use the throttle
Andy
Re:high egt's
Those egt's don't sound to high to me. I run anywhere from 750 to 850 cruising and 1300 degrees when I mash on it. Cummins sais that you can run 1350 degrees for no more than 30 minutes so it sounds like your egt's are ok.
Re:high egt's
mine were a litle high (for me) crusin at 70mph at 180rpm pyro said 850* going up a hill went up to 1000*
till i straight piped my truck
drop to 650* same speed and rpm up a hill 750*
your number arent high
i wouldnt worry too much

I think you must have meant 30 seconds??
It cost me dearly because I pushed this limit. ($6,500) :'(
Be careful and do not push your luck.

Thanks for all the replys, but one more question to those that responded. Where are your torque plates positioned?
Andy

Andy I thought you and Mark had that truck of yours working right. Anyways ask Mark to retard the pump timing by 1 degree and see what difference it makes. Performance may be slightly reduced but you will be able to pull the trailer at max power longer. PK
Re:high egt's
No problems yrusoslow2, we all make typos like that, just needed to clear it up before some noobie tried to go 30 minuets at 1350*, I am still licking my wounds with my bad experience ;D :'(

Re:high egt's
Pat,
I thought that advancing the timing resulted in cooler egt's.
I've decided to slide the plate back from full forward to stock position and take it from there. I'm getting far too much fuel with those 370's , so sliding the plate back may help. However, I will give Marc a call to see what he thinks. ( I never see him on these web sites anymore ) 'Till next time.
Andy
Re:high egt's
Andy it is true advancing with fuel increase does help but in your situation while constant pulling you need to maintain maximum boost/fuel ratio. But just like a gas engine too much pre-ignition creates too much heat and timing needs to be retarded slightly. We did the same thing with the big Cats opened up, optimum goal was to be able to pull 15-20 minutes without exceeding the post pyro temp of 1050-1100/max boost 36-43psi. With the mechanical pumps your foot has to be the final adjustment but occasionally we would have to retard the timing slightly to prevent nuclear melt downs or turn the screw back in 1/2 turn at a time. Toy trucks are different than work trucks- toy trucks peak out for 5-15 seconds aka a race, work truck may have to maintain 70-100% throttle all day into a cross wind pulling a trailer. PK
Re:high egt's
FWIW when I had my timing advanced I reduced my EGT's by 200°F. If you still have alot of smoke, and high EGT then move the plate back a bit to reduce the full load fuel. You may not see a reduction in power just in temp. Other than that you have done all you can with the intake other than a different turbo. You may consider an HX-40 or equivalent if you need the power. Or advance your timing a bit.

Good luck Andy..( I haven't seen marc around either ??? )

J-eh
