hard starting 98

Met a guy at the parts store today with a real nice 98 dually. He left the rig running and after asking about it I found that it wont hardly start on flat ground, it only starts normal if he parks on a steep hill. he lost his lift pump late last year, and hit injector pump this year. was ok after the new lift pump and injector pump for awhile then started to do this. had the place that he got the pump from look at it and they even put in a new pump for him without solving the problem. had the computer flashed and that did nothing. so I told him that I would see if I could get the problem solvers on it and see if we could come up with some ideas. sorry about the long story guy's, and thank's in advance.

If its a 12V then it sounds like the fuel supply and/or return lines have become porous and need to be changed. A search will bring up many similar problems. If this is indeed the case then he probably did not need the pumps replaced, just $25 worth of hose and clamps!

Look at;
www.fostertruck.com
They have the kit to replace the fuel lines.
I assume when they changed the pumps they checked the timing and changed the fuel filter. The hoses can be in failure mode without leaking fuel, they will however allow air to be introduced into the fuel and cause the condition you describe. I need to do mine but have been putting it off! Direct him to that link, Dodge Trucks and scroll down to the fuel lines. It tells you all you need to know........
