green oil

I am new to the Cummins world and havnt had a chance to even change the oil in my new to me truck. I checked the oil the other day and used a white paper napkin to clean the dip stick. The oil seemed to have a greenish tint to it when it got onto the napkin. The oil was changed at the dealer when I bought it about 1500 miles ago. Im used to my gasser having just a regular oil color and getting darker with more miles. Is this a problem or normal for a diesel? Thanks in advance.

May just have to do with the brand of oil they used.

ATF is normally red - Dye
Daewoo equipment uses same ATF and it comes from the factory green - Dye
Euclid equipment now come from the factory with bright red hydraulic fluid, green gear oil 80/90, and yellow engine oil to aid in leak detection

Someone here may have more info, but I'm guessing it's the normal color of the oil.

Sometimes when you 've got relatively fresh oil in the crankcase, a little suspended soot gives the amber oil a greenish/grayish tint to it. If I were you, first thing I'd do is to change the oil and filter; you don't know what's in there. Replace it with API CH or CI rated oil (although CF/CG is acceptable for your engine), install an approved filter like a Fleetguard and change your fuel filter.

It could be the Delo UV product. It is used to find oil leaks. You run the UV oil for a while and use a black light to find the location of your leak. Pretty COOL stuff.

Today I checked the oil in my 91 and the oil had a greenish tint to it as well. It was just changed about 3 weeks ago 4-500 miles. I had never saw it look like that before, I didn't know if it was because of a differnet brand or what. I used rotella same as I do in my other one, never noticed it having greenish color to the oil before.

I think that it's the UV dye, my first oil change came out almost army green. Put the new oil (premium blue) in and it was normal oil color.

Had a little leak at the valve cover and sure enough the oil is green again. Service adviser told me they put a dye in it and "when I bring it in for it's next oil change" they will look it over with a black light.

As if I'm gonna let them do the oil change

I was almost scared that I had some kind of problem with diesel getting into the oil but that hasnt been an option on any response so I can cancel that idea. Thanks to all!

I have used Delo 400 since day 1 in my truck and yesterday checked the oil and found this green tinted oil. I have never noticied this before and I have had this truck almost 5 years. I wonder if it is something Delo has chaged in thier oil? It is clear and clean, but definantly has a green tint. Scared the heck out of me too. Thought it might be a coolant leak into the oil or somthing.
