fuel shut off arm
fuel shut off arm
After replacing my shutoff solonoid several times, for a year or two ive been using a manual fuel shutoff. just a push pull cable assembly.
My question is this, when the fuel shutoff arm, which goes into the pump travels from front to back, it kills the engine.
Is this a ball or gate type valve? where the amount of flow can be controlled depending on the lever position, or does it work simply open/closed?

someone said there truck was running like a dog, then he adjusted the arm or somthing on the fuel shutoff and it ran great again. So i think it does affect flow to a certain degree not just open closed.
It will make the truck very slow just lie a valet switch if it does not lift completely to the "run" position. I had mine zip tied up and it wasn't quite high enough so it was very slow, I thought to myself "how can I be in valet mode I took out the AF arm!"
What did you use for a pull cable? I want to rig mine up like that as well but want it to be a clean good looking installation...

what type of pump ???? VE,rotary or inline ???
VE a spring holds the arm in open and a pull cable is a good idea, will not effect power
inline has a very heavy solonoid and the guts should be removed before a pull cable is tried, the wrong postion could effect fuel delivery
warning diesel care & performance is a rip off they are ebay crooks dont buy from them

Oh Yes....Your power will be cut almost half...On my truck, the shutoff linkage was not pulling far enough.Would loss almost 10MPH climbing a hill....
I just went to a truck supply store, got a cable set with a red **** on it, similiar to any large machinery. I drilled a hole in the lower panel under the wheel, have to look first though, theres a bunch of insulation behind it.
then i made a loop on the end of the cable where i wanted it to bolt to the arm, same nut and bold as when connected to the solonoid. then you just have to find a spot ( through trial and error i found) directly inline works best to fasten the outer casing for the cable. ive had mine for probably 3 years worked fine until monday when the cable snapped. Luckily I had enough room left where i could adjust and rewind it. Thats what got me thinking, for a while, I think when i would push in to run, I wasnt getting full fuel. ANyways, all better now.

MY BAD I assumed everyone knew that a shut was called a shut off for a reason!!! inproper set up of a cable without knowing how the system works will effect power please try to learn all you can before changing factory setups
I have been working on all kinds of injection systems for 15+years and sometimes forget not everyone know small details
WARNING diesel care & performance memphis tn is a rip off
