Fuel Line Help
Fuel Line Help
Could use some advice. I'm on the road and stuck in Texarkana , Tx. with a cracked fuel line, the one between the Transfer pump and the fuel pump. Truck's at the dealers and supposed to get a new fuel line in tomorrow. I'm wondering if something can be done to repair this should the line not arrive or if it doesn't fit. Been here since Sun.
The dealer mechanic told me you can't use hose for this or repair the existing line in any way. It's leaking pretty good and I would not drive it like it is. Any ideas guys?

Could you be more specific on where your leak is?
You have a lift pump mounted to the drivers side of the block right next to a heater/strainer assembly and the second pump you have is the injector pump.
If you are talking about the 90 degree bend hose between the lift pump and the heater/strainer it is a dealer only item, about $11. Such a tight bend you can't use a straight piece of hose because it will collapse and restrict.
If you are talking about the supply or return lines from the tank, I just used a tubing cutter to cut mine clear back at the tank and ran 5/16" diesel rated hose all the way to the engine, completely eliminating the steel lines.

I got a feeling this is more than just $11. The line is directly below the injection pump and connects to the transfer pump at the rear of the engine. The leak is below the injection pump low on the motor. The mechanic working on it described it as metal and about 18 or so inches long.
Wish I could explain better but thanks for the reply.

that lil rubber line by the fuel filter goes frequently and leaks...its short like 4 inches or something just a real pain to do cause its a tight squeeze...expect to slice ur knuckles
It's the line from the transfer pump to the injection pump. the leak seems to be directly under the injection pump down low on the engine. I'm told it's about 18" long and is metal.
There is no fuel line that goes from the lift pump directly to the IP. Here is the route;
fuel tank to heater/strainer to lift pump to fuel filter to injector pump
I think you must be describing either the metal fuel line that goes up from the lift pump to the filter housing or the metal line that goes from the fuel filter housing to the injector pump.
Both of these lines would be dealer items as they both have banjo type fittings that are difficult to change without a multitude of fittings and alterations.
Sorry we're not of much help but it sound like you are at their mercy. Hope you don't have to wait much longer.
If you still have problems maybe someone else might chime in here with help.
