Fuel filter

I have a 94 ctd and would like to know if there is a fuel filter that will fit this truck that doesnt have the water seporater on the bottom of it. Have had the truck for a few years and have yet had any water / fuel problems so had the bright idea to just purchase a plain filter. Also might be a few dollars cheaper or should I just forget it....

Instead of changing the fuel filter why don't you just install a fuel pressure gauge to alert you to a plugging filter?
A mechanical FP gauge doesn't cost much and will allow you to determine when the filter really needs changing. I can usually go at least 30k between changes. Eliminating just two unnecessary filter changes will easily pay for the gauge.

what is the normal operating range on fuel pressure?? If you get a gauge, what's normal pressure & how much higher would it go to indicate some obstructions / plugging?

Normal fuel transfer/lift pump pressure specifications are 17 - 22 psi at idle and 25 - 35 psi at 2500 rpm (no load). The gauge must be at least 40 psi but 60 is better as the normal needle position is about straight up.

The pressure will go lower as the filter plugs. Both my trucks consistently read 22 psi at idle and 32 cruising a flat road at 70. If I see the pressure drop 3-5psi it's time to change the filter. Most I've gone on a filter has been 47k, but a buddy made it 62k before his plugged.
All depends on the quality of fuel you're putting in your tank, not how many miles you've gone.

i got mine at a local big-truck junkyard. a lot of old peterbilts have mechanical fuel pressure guages, got mine with hose and all the fittings for about 5 bucks. actually, had i thought about this, i would have never bought my autometers. the junk yard is full of gauges; boost to 45 psi, egt, fuel pressure, oil temp, etc... you have to look around for ones that will work, but thats half the fun.
