fixing the fuel gauge

Does anyone have any detailed info on how to fix the fuel gauge, without buying a new sending unit. I've seen something about it once but I don't remember where I saw it from. I would really like to know how much fuel I have. Thanks

Bunch of recommendations here http://dodgeram.org/tech/repair/index.html#wiring

but I figure for the amount of work that it takes to get at the sender I rather just buy a new one for $60. The new ones are supposedly improved and don't fail as often.

Here is another option for you to possibly consider. The capacitance type sender has no moving parts and no float. The install is pretty straigtforward. The key is getting the proper length sender. If it is by chance too long you can cut it and recalibrate at home but if you measure good in advance of ordering it you wont need to do that.

Check the thread below for my install notes of how I did it. By the way the cost was 55ish for the sender.

I got one for about 45 bucks from a dodge dealer. But you can also repair them by bending some preload into the wiper arm and replacing the pin in the center with something else like a cotter pin, if its worn.
