Fan Hub Bearing Part Number?
Hi All,
I finally purchased the truck I've needed for the last 16 years and am going about taking care of this and that(mainly the KDP). In the course of doing so, it looks like the fan hub bearing is in need of replacement and Cummins wants
$118.00 for a replacement. I searched the forums and the NTN bearing numbers I located don't work with my local bearing houses. Does anyone have a replacement bearing number or a source for a better price? The Cummins number is 3910739.
Thanks in advance.
p.s. The truck is a 1996 12V/5 spd 4x4 Clubcab.

Somebody over in the 1st gen forum found an interchange number for that and got one at a bearing supply house. Poke around over there and you ought to be able to find it. It's the same bearing as your truck has.

Wannadiesel,
Thank you for the advice, but every number I found when I searched was a no-go with two local bearing houses. I was hoping someone would have a source for the bearing or a different part number. I'm having a tough time parting with $118 for one from Cummins...

Re: Bearing ...
You can watch ebay ... Mine was the only one that no one could not figure why my fan would come off my bearing ... my bearing was striped on the fan hub ... what a mess ... I had to buy one from cummins ... not cheap .
It was $350 ...I need one with threads ...LOL
I just threw my old one out ... bearing was good ...Sorry
I would go with the bearing company ... I have Philadelphia bearing and seal near me ... they seem to have everything .
$118.00 dose not seem to bad ... especially if your stuck in the sticks ...LOL

Excuse my for seeming ignorant, but I am not sure if the fan hub and fan clutch is one and the same. If it is, I have a used fan clutch I would be glad to sell for far less than 118.00. PM me if what I have will be of use to you.

Greguw,
Thanks for the reply. It sounds like your case involved stripped threads on the
fan hub shaft (where the big nut on the fan itself connects to). In that case, there isn't much else you can do than purchase a new or used assembly.
I am not giving up on my quest....I guess it's my nature as a frugalitarian (possibly a new word!).
Baja,
Thank you for the offer. The fan clutch is actually a different component. The fan hub is the large cast iron piece that bolts to the block and contains the shaft that the fan connects to. There is a replaceable bearing within the casting.

Be prepared for a a failed quest. I've found a lot of the bearings Dodge and Cummins use aren't available to the public even though they may have a common bearing manufacturer's name and number on them.

Infidel,
I believe it...been through the same scenario on other projects. In fact, one of the bearing houses was able to locate the bearing by one of the numbers I had given them...the only problem was that it was only available in Europe or South America under that particular bearing number. Geez, what happened to NAFTA?!
