Fan Belt, how long will it last?
Fan Belt, how long will it last?
I'm about to take care of the KDP (Killer Dowl Pin)and while I have the belt off I was thinking of just putting on a new one. What is the life span of a belt? I bought the 95 new and have 70K on it. :- Thanks, Maccandy.

Belt life varies with climate....if you doing the KDP replace your belt then put the old belt in your truck as a backup road spare....each service look at your belt for cracking its normal to see minor cracking on the groove side

Get the Goodyear "gator" belt. It will eliminate that annoying belt chirp when you shut off the engine. I'm pretty sure it's called "gator" and made by goodyear. Only costs a few bucks more, and I believe it has a lifetime warranty. Kevin

kd460 is correct - the Goodyear "Gator" belt eliminates the chirp on shutdown. Don't know about the lifetime warranty, though. Changed mine out about 75K miles ago and it is just now starting to chirp occasionally. I keep the original belt in the truck just so the new one won't break :P
Ever notice how having spares handy keeps stuff from breaking? Maybe I need to ride around with an aftermarket tranny in the bed just to keep the one in the truck from destroying itself.

Always remember when it comes to belts and hoses time plays as big a roll as miles . Cant beat a good belt and hose inspection to determine if they need to be replaced.
Belts need to be replaced once cords start to show and when the belt shows signs of cracking through the length of the belt.
Hoses are much better than they used to be years ago but buldging and exposure to oils when they shouldnt be reduce there life big time.
Just have a good look and if you think there beat replace them before they leave you stranded or worse do other damage on there way out..
