Engine Break In
Take this with a grain of salt...Until other members post..
I heard,, to break them in...Do not baby them...But put them under load..To seat the rings and everything else...
We did this mistake to a MF tractor with a diesel Perkins...Dad babied the tractor and didn't force it to smoke and dig the cultivator in deep..
After a few hours...The tractor was giving problem...Problem was...He glazed the cylinder walls for not putting it under load...Landed up having to rebuild the motor..

x2 on diesel dave's post, I started doing the hard break in and oil usage on every engine iv done it to is 100% zero, even single ring slipper piston dirt bikes.

Although my new 2013 VW diesel came from the factory with Snythtic oil in it so not sure how that's going to turn out.

A lot of performance guys do a 5-10 minute break in with no coolant in it. Seats the rings much faster. Don't go any longer than that as you'll overheat and wind up doing damage. Do a search on Comp-D, lots of info on it.

hmm, I would never do that- you want to seat the rings not blow the spring tension out of them. Iv assembled them dry and fired em' up- wailed until normal opp temp and then full them full throttle for a few bursts but never ever without coolant.
