Assuming your probe is pre turbo you can drive all day at 1200°.
Only exceed this for a short amount of time.

1250 max sustained temp. anything over that is ok as long as you limit to a few seconds.

The Cummins will handle 1250 degrees F, all day long as long as you have high quality oil and the engine is not equipped with the plastic piston cooler nozzles. If you have the plastic piston cooler nozzles, keep the EGT below 1100, or you will blow one loose and fry a piston. Cummins set the plastic equipped engines up OEM at a max of 950 degrees F on EGT, so keep that in mind.

Altitude has little to do with the EGT, but load pulling a grade does.

RCW, I do know about the plastic oil squirters but without tearing down the engine and pulling pistons, how do you know whether or not you have plastic piston cooler nozzles? Shame on Cummins !
