Do I need a high flow PS pump?
Do I need a high flow PS pump?
I'm getting ready to order a Borgeson ps box, new steering shaft and DSS.
The Borgeson website (at Genos) offers a high flow ps pump.
Is there a reason I would need that?
I intend to call the company but I wondered how many people installed the borgeson steering box with their stock ps pump, and did it create any problems?

it depends on what you are doing with the truck, use wise
My 92 can't use a high flow pump, as I plow snow with it in the winter. When the fluid moved too quickly through the pump it began overheating while I was clearing parking lots. Hundreds of minor corrections or changes in steering wheel position, without air flowing around the pump caused the fluid to bubble up and out of my ps pump from overheating. I had to install a ps hd cooler in front of the radiator to pull air through the cooler while plowing. Fixed my issue and no longer overheats while plowing.
The fluid was moving too fast through the system to be effectively cooled without the aux cooler.
I think you should consult the gear manufacturer as to what you need, as excessive pressure can bypass seals maximum tolerance ratings and cause leaking

Thats good to know.
In that case I'm guessing most people install the borgeson steering box without upgrading the pump. I just want to make sure I'm installing the ps box correctly, I'd rather NOT buy the borgeson pump if I don't have to. I'm just doing regular towing (horses)
Anyways I'll talk to them next week but wondered what the experience was from those of you who did it already. Thanks!
