difference between frame's.

hi ya'll,

i have a dumb question. what if any is the difference between the 1500 and 2500 frame's, and the 7700lbs and 8800lbs 2500's. i have heard that the 7700lbs and 1500 frame's are the same. i ask because i'm looking to do a frame up rebuild on my truck. i have a 98 12valve quad short bed 8800lbs 5speed 4x4. also would a 3500 frame work, and what would be the perk of going with the 1 ton frame.

thank ya in advance for the help.

The frame shop told me they are the same 1500 thru 3500.
Others on here don't agree!
Measure all three and see. I did measure them and they seem to be the same. Difference could be the cross braces.

My friend that runs the frame shop has repaired, straighten, spliced frames togeather for over 30 years told that they were the same.
I have a 01 1/2 short bed quad that I was thinking about putting a cummins into, but have decided to go long bed for a camper possibility. I did measure t/2 ton and the he thickness and found them to be the same on the 1 ton dually. I am not sure about the cross braces.
You are working with 3/4 and 1 tons. There should be no problems.

I know looking at my sisters 98 1500 4x4 vs my 98 3500 4x2, my frame was quite a bit taller, and a bit wider at the front. I haven't compared it with my 98 2500 4x4, or the 96 light 2500 4x2. The 96 feels lighter just driving it around vs my 98 2500, but its a gasser too. Everything but my 3500 is a reg cab.
