Death wobble
Hey guys has anybody came up with a cure for death wobble?Replaced steering shock that fixed it for about six months now its doing it again. Won't do it at 55mph but over 60 hang on.
Its a 1997 with 234,000 miles on it.Everything on fron suspension has been replaced at least once.
All help appreciated.
Thanks TWA

Check the track bar first. Elevate the front to get the wieght off it to check it properly, should be no play at all. Check the bushings and check the bolt holes on the mounting brackets for wear. Might even consider urethayne bushings in the track bar.

Alignment, Track bar and bushings would be first on my list...worn ball joints contribute to death wobble too. Depending on the condition of your sway bar bushings, it could be a combination of all of those.
Do you get death wobble just when driving at high speeds on smooth roads, or washboard roads, bumps, occur when braking????
For me, it was a combination of everything above, plus warped brakes, but I only experienced DW when hitting bumps or when braking...

237,000 miles....most truck have been through a couple of track bars. My bet is yours is worn out.
Stand beside the truck while it is idleing in park, reach in and turn the steering wheel right to left, back and forth, a few inches. You will see the truck body moving back and forth above the axle, while the wheels to not move. If this happens your track bar is shot.

At that mileage odds are everything on the front end needs to be replaced again. There is no single issue that causes or cures the wobble, it can be caused by any number of parts in the front end being worn, the track bar is just the most common wear item in the front end. My tie rods were causing it most recently after putting in a new track bar. TR ends were worn but not noticeable by wiggling the rods, only by compressing the ball end. I also need a stabilizer and a steering box. Bad control arm bushings (old and tired) or bent control arms could cause it or contribute to it as well.

Tire pressure is key. 65lbs is minimum on 2500 especially with BFG tires. Also check out www.lukeslink.com to repair track bar.
