Pull Start?
Pull Start?
I pulled into Culvers 60 miles from home to get a cheeseburger and as usual got the customary "could you shut your truck off I can't hear you" Shut it down and ordered 2 cheesburgers. Went to start and click. Click CLick. 5 cars behind me. I managed to push it out of the way so they could get by. I saw a tow sign in the parking lot so I called. $55 bucks to come pull start me. I got under the truck with a screwdriver and tried to bump te starter until it wouldn't spark anymore. No luck. An hour later the tow truck shows up, hooks up and I throw it in second. He gets me going about 15 mph down the parking lot and i pop the clutch. Nothin. We do this repeateadly until we decide one more try then tow me. It catches.
Is there some interlock on the fuel soleinoid and the ignition key? I can't believe my truck was that hard to pull start. I had the key on but does the starter need to engage to make the solenoid function?
Thats the most expensive cheesburgers I have ever bought!

The solenoid won't lift until the starter has power. If you don't put the key to the start position, the solenoid won't lift.
Next time, pop the solenoid up first then do the pull. I've had to do that a couple times when my starter died.

I had the same thing happen last week. It ended up being a bad end on the ground cable.
Don't leave the positive cables hooked up to the battery while removing the ground cable! I think that's how I fried my computer....

It turns out there was a wire that comes off the possitive terminal that only had one good strand left. It wasn't the fuseable link but the other one. I put a new connector on it and it fired right up. New starter is a big improvement too. Only bad thing is its one of those $100 chinese knock offs. Someone had already replaced the Denso with one so I had to do the same. No Denso to rebuild.
