CUMMINS locked up?!?!?!???????

Ok guys I'm new here but not new to the engine anyways I am buy my 3rd 2nd gen 12 valve this
weekend and it has 267000 miles onit the guy says he shut it off at the gas station went in to pay
came back out and it wouldn't crank he says its locked up anyways he has had it setting for about
3 years now and hasent tryd to fix it or nothing so what are my chances oF it being locked up??


Has anyone heard of anything like this happening befor?

Throw a socket on the crankshaft and see if it moves. Not uncommon for a starter to seize, I've never seen an a/c compressor seize up enough to not let it crank. I'd think it would just slip the belt. Take the belt off to try to crank anyway. Let us know what it is if you find out.

I had an alternator seize while idling, killed it dead, almost no crank, at first had me convinced she was locked up.

After thinking about it for a bit, I removed the belt and she fired right up, too bad I had already wounded my Starter......

I would have NEVER believed my story if I did not live it.

X2 for removing the belt and trying to start.

On the thread topic, It is not uncommon for the contacts to go bad in the starter causing a no start situation as well, easy and inexpensive repair.

GoT her home today and raised the hood starter, fuel solinoid and idler pulley are all missing
Haven't tryd to turn it yet they said thAT they could turn it like a 1/4 inch each way I had
Somone tell me that it could be the pin in the front that comes loose forget what its called



ANY IDEAS????????

Ok well I been reading on here all morning about the KDP and I went out to try to turn it over and you can turn the flexplate 1/2 inch in each direction so I am thinking it may be the KDP but has anyone heard of it locking one up like this befor??????

if the dowel pin has damaged a timing gear or two it can easily cause this exact symptom you have

At this point, it would be worth the time to remove the front timing cover and take a look at the dowel pin.

Yeah I hope to tear into it this week and hope its a pretty simple fix and not to costly I'll keep the progress posted
