Cruise Control Drops Out....Help

I have a 1998 12 valve and the cruise control just started being "sensitive".

It is the first time this has happened.

Driving along and then hit a small bump in the highway and it jumps out of cruise.

Any ideas about why would be appreciated

Thanks

Replace your brake light switch, at the minimum, try resetting it........

Does the brake light switch control the cruise control?

Also, reset the cruise control? and how do I do that?

The brake light stops the cruise control from holding the pedal down. Think about it--you wouldn't want the cruise control to keep the rpm's up if you were trying to come to a stop.

Yep, brake light switch drops out cruise. If it is getting worn, or out of adjustment, going over a bump will disengage your cruise.

Easiest is to take knee bolster cover off, then remove switch ( 1/8 turn twist and remove ), then pull out the plunger just a bit, you will feel it click several times. Then simply put it back in, the plunger will adjust to the correct length automatically.

I usually just replace the thing, they are like 15 bucks at your local auto parts store.

Make sure all battery terminals are completely spotless

The terminals, the battery cable ends and all small connections going to the battery (most important) are completely clean and free of any corrosion. You might have to cut the small connections off and re-crimp new ends on them

I've seen this fix the cruise control problem first hand on my 96 12v.
Worth a shot, it could resolve your problem

yea. When I swapped over to the group 31 battery there is a couple of wires on the right side. I think they were a fuseable link that connects to the position terminal..after I made to swap to the group 31 my cruise would not work . I recheck and I made the connection to the positive terminal and the cruise works now . I not sure what that lead powers up but it needs to work

Very interesting. My battery terminals are in horrible shape. They are barely holding on.
But I have some new, lead, terminals I ordered from Larry B sometime back. Hope to get them on soon.

yea years ago when I was having all kinds of problems. Tach. Alternator. I finally changed out the pcm with a rebuilt unit from Mopar , and it was a on line discount dealer . That fixed all but one problem. The dip in the road and loose cruise control. I added a spring to the brake peddle, that fixed that problem. Rigging or not it worked for a long time . Last year I had a g56 conversion done to my 95 4x4 so I replaced the switch.

For what ever reason I not had any trouble with my cruise dropping out lately . I have had the issue with gaining speed a couple times but other than that nothing like before. It use to drop out of cruise going over a hill on the coast side .

Cruise control

Well as a lot of things it worked great untill it did not .. My cruise worked good for a while and then drama . Then it stopped working. **** , Ok got the shop manual out and went down the list and finally. No power at the Pcm but power at the servo .. So i ran a jumper to the pin and took for a test . Sure enough the **** thing woked .. So i ran a power to it. Took it for a test ride and it work then drop thing dropped out . So i placed my foot under the brake pedal and sure enough it stopped the drama . So i assume somethings its more than one problem....This has been Pita lol

Cruise control

What a deal lol ..I installed a new mopar brake switch and i thought i got this ..well lol the cruise control still act up . So i got the factory manual out and started checking harness wire by wire to see what was going on from the pcm to the brake switch and servo. Finally i checked voltage with a t pin on the back of the pin i think 49 . 12v key on and power from cruise . So i had removed the harness from the pcm . I stuck a tip cleaner for torches in the female socket that was just a bit smaller than the socket . I wanred to see if i could find a loose fitment ..At any rate i checked the voltage on that side of the harness . 7 volts . I checked it again 7 v . So i cleaned the socket and rechecked 12 volts . So i was really surprised. . Took truck for a test drive . Took overdrive the first time . Did not drop out at random times.... So i learned a lesson about this . I was tired of dealing with this cruise control lol ..Will see how long it works this time ..
