Oil pressure drops out?

12 valve running great. Everything stock, for now. When I pull a load or stop after a long haul the oil pressure drops to nothing. Just the other day I pulled a trailer for about an hour, pulls and runs great, oil pressure while running is around 40 psi, right in the middle of the gauge. But when I get off the highway and idle the truck for a while, like when I'm backing the trailer up, I get a "check guages" signal and my oil pressure is zeroe'd out. Will stay this way till I give it a little gas and back up to 40 psi. All the while the truck seems to be running great. Bad sensor? Bad stock gauge? Bad motor?

oil pressure

haven't installed that sixth guage yet, but every now and then it still drops out. I'm getting a little concerned. I'm at a stop sign idling, pressure reads about 20, then without warning it drops to zero for about 2 seconds and then back up to 20. Truck runs great, no drop in rpms, no sputtering, no loss in fuel pressure nothing, it doesn't miss a beat. Please tell me this is just a bad stock sensor and nothing major???

Hook up a manual guage in the same port that the sender goes into. This will give you "real" pressure readings. Probably just a sender though, very common.
