oil pressure drops at idle

oil pressure seems fine while running {about 45} but when I come to a stop it drops to the low end of the parameter is this normal?

very normal. i had the same worry. on fords they always pretty much stay the same. dodges gauge is almost an exact reading, fords are kinda like an on/off switch i guess u could say. at least thats what someone with a ford told me.

Be careful...DC is an idiot gauge as well! I have aftermarket gauges & can verify! When the gauge reads >40, the real gauge reads anything from 40-65, depending upon rpm.

BTW...Cummins says the oil pressure should be >10psi at idle and >35psi at 2500rpm. They also mention installing a test gauge into the port on top of the oil filter! As a comparison, my '06 is 18-20psi at idle and ~60 at 2500.

The only way to know your oil pressure for sure, is to use a real gauge.

The test port (that's accessible) on top of the oil filter assy....
