cranks allot to start
cranks allot to start
i have a 1996 auto and it just seems like it have to crank allot longer that my two first gens to start i have replaced the fuel lines both of them and i have also tried to wire my shut off solenoid in the run spot and still no change i have also tried to pump the lift pump a few times and then try to start it yet still no change and ideas thanks neal
Kinda normal for a P-pump, the 1st gen has a VE pump, totally different animal.
The VE pumped trucks start right up because the pump starts in the full fuel position. Thats why that have that little blast of smoke when you start them.
The P-pump starts at idle fuel unless you help it out by depressing the pedal a little.

any start cold or warm and pressing the pedal doesn't help at all thanks for you input with the snow right around the corner i want to make sure the old girl will start! now my buddy has a second gen 12v and his starts right i mean when i crank my first gen by the time i count to 1 its running now on my second gen i count to five or six for it to start would you say that is normal and the starter doesn't sound weak at all
I ALWAYS have to give the pedal a little tap when starting. warm, or cold.
it may have to do with the pump tweaks, and the timing increase...
it HAS TO BE a fuel issue. we have no ignition or air concerns with the cummins (unless the shut down is closed...) but then it would never start..

If your fuel PSI regulator is leaking (internally) it can give you a slow to start condition. It takes a few spins of the engine to get the fuel pressure back up to start.
A simple test is to pump the primer- not just a few times, but until it "honks" The sound is like a muted goose to me anyway
If the reg is working right, that should only take 1 or 2 pumps.
If it takes 15-20 (or maybe lots more!!!) the regulator is probably the culprit.
