Cold start/stall

Cold start/stall
Ok so I have a little annoyance with my 94. If its colder than 15 degrees (or so) over night I have to hold the throttle open a little to get the truck to stay running. The block heater is on a timer for about 2hrs before I start the truck. If I don't hold the throttle the truck fires then dies. I thought timing would solve this but it didn't.
Thanks for the help,
Travis

no timing actually makes this worse. my timing is at 16* and it got a little rougher to start as well. I have to do exactly what you do.
you should see my buddies truck with 22* start when its cold, talk about a smoke show.

I think you need 4 hrs on the block heater ,
Whats your RPM when the eng. is warm , should be 750-800 , if not adjust , are you using fuel injection cleaner?

Yeah thats what i was thinking of bumping it to. RPM at idle and warm is right where it should be 750ish. I'm running power service anti gel (white bottle) and the blend of fuel is 60/40 sooo i think im safe from gelling. Once it warms up a hair (30 sec at 1k rpm) it will idle ok.

Mine starts right up at idle (no throttle) even when the temp gets down to -15, not plugged in.
It sounds like you may need to set your idle up , i set mine to 860 RPM in D, as per the CPL on my engine. In N id idles up to almost 1000 , but that doesn't bother me one bit in the winter.

I set the idle at 850 on manuals. I little higher for the autos. The key is to make sure the GSK isn't too tight, too. Hey, it's getting cold here, last night it was 32 at my house.
