Exclamation clutch seating????

i have a friend who bought a single disk south bend with the bigger imput shaft for his 95. when he bought it they told him you have to seat it in by slipping the hell out of it until you can really smell it good. by hooking it to something like a big tree. is this true or are they trying to sell him another clutch really really soon. I have never heard this before so i just wanted other opinions before he smokes this new clutch.

Trust you instincts. That would not be a smart idea.

Ask that vendor if he has any "Compression Powder."

I have seen that on old tractors as a way to seat the clutch, but usually that's a last resort if it is grabby. I think it is just a "shortcut" way so that you don't have to machine anything.

On edit, I wouldn't recommend this. Just saying I have heard of it.

You might want to stand by with a chainsaw to help him get out of the truck when he pulls the tree down on top of the truck!!!!!
