Question Buying 1998 12valve need help

I am hopefully buying a 1998 quad cab short bed auto with 144k miles. I will probably have many other questions, but I have to start somewhere.
Should I start with a new trans or just a tc or wait until it breaks, and which trans does everyone recommend?
I would like to add more power just not sure how much. A friend has the 230 605 and I would like more than that.
Any ideas info or anything would be much appreciated. Thanks

1. Sit back with a 6-pack and start reading tranny posts.

2. Make up your mind how much HP you will stop at.

3. Make some phone calls to tranny suppliers.

4. Use your best judgement to make an educated decision, because many of us here can not give you that.

5. Keep an eye on your finances. (yah right haha)

welcome aboard and good-luck

I was where you are 1 year ago. I put in a #6 plate from tst and a tq from tci. I am sure there are more powerfull trucks out there but my power level is good even when pulling 15k mileage is 10-12 loaded. once you junk that stock tq the real fun begins:

I bought my 98 12v auto last December, and here's what *I* have done, and in this order:

1. Tripple pillar gauge pod (boost/tranny/egt)
2. #10 TST plate
3. AFE intake system
4. 3k spring kit (not instaled yet)

Next will be the tranny upgrade.

If you don't do any pulling, and your tranny seems fine now - take it slow and just see how it goes.
