Burning oil???
Burning oil???
I have a new (to me) truck (first gen) with a 98 p-pumped motor and on startup(warm ) I get a puff of smoke that smells like oil. The engine is modified. I'm wondering the likelihood that it is oil draining past the valve seats. True mileage of the engine is unknown, however I doubt it's much. The donor was from a wrecked truck, and this truck is nicely put together which leads me to believe the PO would not have put in a junk motor. What do you guys think? It is the first puff on startup, after that it smells normal.
I thought I had a major oil leak issue after reading about the synthetic having detergent in it. ( Pretty sure Bill brought that up ). after putting fresh cardboard down to try and figure out where it was coming from. and there was alot of oil on the ground. ended up somehow the filter had backed itself almost all the way off. I put a new filter on, no more leaks, but man do i have alot of oil to steam off the engine bay this winter.
Yeah, just found my filter loose too! Not the problem though unfortuneately. If I startup and run to the puff blowing away I can smell oil, not very burnt smelling, just a good wiff of the motor oil.My bet and hope is turbo, although thats BS too, for what I paid.
Are you perhaps running any fuel additives ?
I once accidently (
) added TOO MUCH and it resulted in excessive blue smoke out the exhaust.
As soon as I got the ratio corrected it quit smoking.

No, PO did run Cenpeco which is smellier out of the vent tube than Rosmella. Thats whats in it now. It's not really blue, the first puff is dark grey due to the heavy fueling. It hazes light blue which is to be expected b/c of the fueling.I'm gonna delve into the turbo tomorrow.
