Burning oil.

Went on a trip this weekend, about 100 miles, when I came back I had used about ½ quart of oil, I checked the level before and after the trip. The only thing different is that the engine was running a bit hotter than usual, and I was going kind of fast, about 2300-2500 rpm. I am curios if something inside the engine is wearing out faster than normal? I normally use about ½ quart every 3000 miles. I was told that the expansion of the cylinder walls at higher temperatures and rpms allows more oil to get by, true?

The injection pump holds about a half quart that drains back really slow. Unless you check the level after the truck sits overnight the dipstick reading will likely be off.

Yes I waited overnight to recheck the oil level. It definitely used that ½ quart in those 100 miles of driving. I’m sure it was due to the engine running hotter, turning faster, or both. I’ve seen it before and as long as I’m not hurting the engine, I can live with this. I can sort of feel when this is happening because the engine feels kind of lazy and low on power. Have you, or anyone else, experienced this?

Wow, you're burning oil with only 90K miles on the clock?!
