Blue smoke
Blue smoke
Have a '96 12 valve with 411,000kms and its been getting colder in alberta, trucks been smoking a little blue at idle during warm up. Do most of these 12 valves do that or is it a problem?
A cold engine makes white smoke.
Blue smoke indicates it's burning oil.
Keep an eye on your oil level, if you start using over a quart/liter every oil change then you can start worrying.
These engines don't warm up well just idling, in fact it can damage them. Best way to warm them up is to start driving as soon as the oil pressure comes up.
Another way to warm one up is to increase the idle to at least 1200 rpm. I do it by wedging my snow scraper inbetween the seat and throttle pedal.

Haha yes, I use a cutoff hockey stick for my high idle, ive been looking for a manual high idle for it but have yet to find one anywhere. It seems to smoke blue while cold but it certainly doesnt after its at operating temps
