Blue Smoke?
Blue Smoke?
Truck's been sitting about 2 years with only being started about once a month - I've been getting ready to drive it again & I noticed a lot of blue smoke even after idling about 10 min. Besides changing the fuel filter and oil, is there anything else I need to do after sitting so long? Did the fuel go bad? Thanks.
It could be a couple of different things off the top of my head, sticky piston rings which if it was run once a month maybe but no likely also valve seals not sure of the style used on the Cummins as I have never dealt with them, but have had on other vehicles in the past where they harden up after not being run for extended periods of time causing blue smoke (oil burning)
after 2 years of sitting you should have pre lubed the engine- it has been reported that the oil pump will drain back and cannot self prime.
I would recommended prelubing the pump and the turbo- but as it's too late I would think to where oil can get in- rings, valve seals... after you get it going driving does the blue smoke go away or continue- it's possible it's just not warmed up even after 10 min depending on the ambiant temps- idle is zero load on the engine and produces little engine heat.
