Why 6 speed?
I agree, a six speed would be cool but what are you after?
If you are after a lower cruising rpm, I don't think you get that with the six speed. I've only driven one and I think the overdrive gearing was the same as the five speed.
If you want to shorten the gap between second and third then I think you get that with the six speed.
I am not familiar with the "dual speed" box or whatever that link was that you posted but I am very familiar with the Gear Vendors unit.
I've had one in my truck for over ten years and I love it!
It does not work in 4x4. I don't see why you would need it then. It has a relay that disengages when you are in 4x4 to insure that the unit doesn't work.
If the unit fails it fails back to whatever you had before you installed it. They install the same box in motorhomes, trucks and they used to install them in that Callaway Corvette.
I am not affiliated I just know that mine made my life much easier as my freeway cruising became much smoother.
Good luck.

I'm on my fifth tranny with the US Gear overdrive unit behind it. The weak link here is the tranny. If it was as strong as the Aux tranny unit, all would be well. The US Gear aux transmission is tough as nails. The transmission in my truck is on it's way out now. I top 15K lbs and I guess that's to much for it to take. It's been howling for a while and yesterday fifth gear slipped off again. I called Charlie at ST this morning about a 6 speed change. These are getting hard to get for rebuilds, because of all the swaps going in. I look at a new five speed and wonder, why. Why put the sixth one in?
I'm waiting on Charlie to call now. But the US Gear overdrive, tough.
UP DATE: Charlie just called and told me he did not have any 5600 cores and could not get any. Blumenthals has none either. They are not produced anymore so are going to get very scarce.

Thanks for all the replys it looks like as soon as i get the funds up i am goin for the US gear unit.
Turbo Thom- did you have to do any modifing to your truck to make this fit. As for your Five to Six speed swap check out http://www.drivetrain.com/nv5600.html I am on my Second main saft in my NV4500 but still the same trans. and i average pull about 12000lbs and it appears to be holding up good.

Take a look
If you have a 4x4 I think this one takes less mods to your drive train.

Thank you Sleigher i have looked at that unit looks like they are over compicating some thing that dosen't need to be. but if anyone else has one of these that can chime in i would love to hear it.
Over-complicated?
One thing I couldn't see on the US Gears box site was a description of how it worked. Although I didn't look to long.
One of the selling points to me was that the Gearvendor unit will not leave you stranded.
If the clutch goes out or the filter gets plugged or a switch quits working etc etc you are simply back to stock.
When I bought mine, a long time ago, that was a real concern because I was putting mine on a basically new truck.
In fact, mine was the first of the new body style Dodges that they had done.
They also have a slick replacement deal, I think now if your unit fails it costs $600. And you are good as new.
Maybe, I am just so happy with mine that I can't say enough about it. I'm not sure. I don't know anything about the one you are looking at.
I will say the the Gearvendor unit can not be used for compression braking. Apparently the clutch was only meant to hold in one direction.

Us Gear Vs Gearvender
As you can see I have a few miles on Mine, I had a US Gear, used it for about 120k, then it went bad on me, my average pull is 15k, and then i went to the Gearvender my mileage went up and so did the maintance on my U-joints. So Im a Gearvender fan, about at 400k I called Gearvender and asked about a rebuild on my unit and they said they would just send me a new one and pay for the shipping on return of core, cost me 600 bucks and I was on the road again in two hours, Im sure my old one would of made it, but cant beat the cost for an upgrade.
Hope this helps, the cost is well worth it.
