Truck didn't start this morning

I could tell the batteries weren't feeling too well. I've only had the truck a week. It gets down to around 30* here at night, but it was only taking one cycle of the grid heater to get started. Without plugging it in, of course. But by the time the heater took what it needed, there wasn't much battery left to turn the starter. I kind of thought I should be able to get away without plugging it in in this climate. This morning, it cycled and the battery just didn't have enough juice to turn the starter. So, off I went to the store, where I found a pair of Group 34/78 Optima Red Tops. Cleaned up the battery terminals, which were pretty crusty, and put in the new batteries. Starts good now. I plugged it in, but it just seems like it ain't so cold I should have to. Anyway, did I do good???

Heck yeah you did good,
I been looking to get those, just havent found the cash to get em, I dont need them, mine are just fine. But, if they go bad, thats what me will probably be getting.
Honestly you really dont have to plug it in at night, but if you are like me and love to jump in and not have to let it warm up, do it.
I can easily start mine in 5* F weather with blowing wind blowing right on it and she starts up rather smooth without having to cycle the heaters more than once.
BTW, When it gets cold, Dont forget to cycle them heaters or else she may start on 3 cylinders and run rough till it slowly gains one after another.
Welcome to DTR if nobody has told you yet.

Sounds good to me. Just cycle the grid heaters and you should be fine in this weather.

Blowing wind, wind chill factors are for humans and other warm-blooded creatures - does not effect inanimate objects

My baby is dead in the drive way too. It used the last of its juice for the grid heater and had none to turn over. My problem is different though. If I leave it for more than 2-3 days without starting, it drains the charge. I am thinking it is a shorted out junction box under the dash.
