auto tranie won't shift
i have a 98' 12valve 4X4 cummins with a 100plate and a 4"exhaust, and an auto traine with a torkconverter lockup switch. my problem is when i am accelerating it does not want to shift up unless i take my foot off the pedel and let the engin decelerate, then if i load the tranie just a little to much it down shifts and my engin redlines and i don't accelerate. just about the only way i accelerate up slopes is to use my lockup, even then if i floor it, it will down shift. i all ready replaced the TPS, adjusted the TV cable ( it was slightly out of adjustment) and the transmission out put shaft speed sensor gives me about a half volt when i wave a pice of metel by the end of it. the oil is not burnt and is nice and cleen. any ideas i would really apreate it .
You have an engine speed sensor. It's right on the front of your engine and it's supposed to have a .050 air gap. I think there are 2 13mm nuts holding it on. Clean it and check the air gap.
Could be the electronic governor.... It isn't telling the VB what the governor pressure should be or it is lower than what it really is. See line pressure overpowering governor pressure/signal will cause the down shift due to low signal. Also, the hesitant up-shift would come from line pressure being higher than governor signal. For an up-shift governor pressure/signal must overcome line pressure. Line pressure is directly related to throttle position, more throttle = more line pressure, so that is why you have to let off to get it to shift. Get the picture?

Ok, I had the SAME EXACT ISSUE, replace all three solenoids on your VB and you will be fine, will cost you about 300$ for the solenoids and about 30 for new tranny fluid and 30 or so for the new tranny pan gasket and tranny filter. Let me know if you have any problems, I can easily walk you through the process being that I did it about a week ago. PM me for my phone number if you need it
