anyone using an external transmission filter?

i just bought a 1996 2500 extended cab 2wd truck with 272K miles. I'm wanting to put an external transmission filter like a magnefine type in the coolant line.
anyone using a magnefine filter already?
which line do I install it in?
what size fitting will I need?

thanks in advance.

The one on the front left with the temp sensor is the hot one. The other is return. Be sure your filter is not restricting the flow. I don't think it is going to make a big difference in performance because the pan filter is a good big filter. The oil needs to be changed often anyway.

My understanding is a cooling line filter can do more harm than good by restricting flow.
The pan filter is plenty adequate.

Maybe I'll hold off on the exteranl filter until I can do some more investigating. I got the idea from the diesel power magazine article they had on external filters.
I just bought the truck and had planned on changing the fluid and filter anyway so I'll just do that for now. If I want to replace all the fluid can I pull the return line and then use that to remove all the old fluid as I pour in new fluid at the same time? How much fluid will I need to do this?

thanks,

If you're able to get all the ATF out it will take about 16-18 quarts.
The experts I've talked to say there is no reason to change all the fluid unless the old fluid smells burnt or is off color.
Just the 4-5 quarts you lose changing the filter is adequate.
