Any fulltime to part time front end conversions?
Any fulltime to part time front end conversions?
Yeah, I have a lot of questions! Along with an eventual Auto to standard tranny conversion, I would like a part time front end and NP 205 Transfer case.
I did the EMS conversion on my truck. Everything was there, straight forward, and most of the parts are for a Ford, so you can get new bearings/rotors from NAPA instead of the retailer. Dynatrac was like that. I can't really say I got any mileage increase from it, since '94-early '02 all were part time front ends, but its nice getting rid of those unit bearings for something easily replaceable and something that can be maintained instead of thrown away.
Why a 205? I know they are strong, but low range isn't nearly as low as the 241 or the 271, and neither one of them are weak units. Unless you are doing something crazy hard on your truck, why sacrifice the low range? I'm not criticizing, just asking.
Hope this helps with the full/part time axle.

NV231 was the half ton t-cases I do believe. 2nd gens came with the 241DLD and the 241DHD. 3rd gens came with the 271 (manual) and 273 (electric). 271 is bigger and stronger than the 241DHD, but is still a bolt in affair for our trucks. Just make sure you get one to match your tranny, as autos and manuals have different output shaft size and spline count.
