Another Tranny Problem
Another Tranny Problem
Just had my trans. totally rebuilt since it was slipping in every gear. The t/c was also fried.
Now occasionally it seems to drop out of drive when I stop at a stop sign or just to get ready to merge with traffic. The guy who rebuilt it took it for a ride from my house and it ran fine for him(figures).
The only times I have noticed this problem was when I left from work where the truck is parked with the nose facing up-hill slightly. And it always starts off fine untill I make that first stop.
The fluid level is fine and I always warm the engine for several minutes before driving. And I wouldn't think the t/c could be draining down while it's parked since it goes right into gear each time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Re:Another Tranny Problem
Could be a million things, but sounds like a leaky valve that is allowing fluid to run out of the torque converter. Put it in neutral and let it idle there for a minute or so. This starts the pump and will refill the converter. If this eliminates your problem. Then thats it. Take it back to the trans guy and tell him what you found. If it does not help, I am sure you'll get a few other suggestions.

Gary
Re:Another Tranny Problem
Well, happened again this morning while on my way to work waiting for a traffic light to chage it droped out of gear again. And this time I was parked in my driveway which is flat. ??? I'll have to go back to my tranny guy and have him look it over again.
He did mention that it could be electrical. Does anyone happen to know what type of electrical problems would cause the tranny to come out of gear like it is? I would have to think my problem is just in the hydraulics.
Re:Another Tranny Problem
Hi Bob Hay i had the same problem with my trans right after rebuild an my driveway is also flat it would go right into gear but then only go a short distance an like go into nuetral I took it back to them (3) times till it was fixed but it was in the VB now it is fine. that part.
But the trans still sometimes will not come out of 3rd at a stop lite so I got POed an ordered a trans from Phoenix Hard Parts with all the good stuff in it for a very good price.
I am going on about a 3 month trip out west an do not want to sit somewhere along the road with this trans broken. I just don't have any confadence in this trans.
NO MORE STOCK TRANS FOR ME, NO MORE LOCAL TRANS SHOPS EITHER. (not for these diesels anyhow)
Re:Another Tranny Problem
Thanks Deezilla for your reply. I should have been a little more clear about my driveway being flat and where my tranny acted up. It came out of gear just a short drive from my driveway when I stopped for a traffic light. All the other times it was when I just left work and had to stop for a few seconds to try to merge with traffic. Nothing like trying to jump into traffic and find your tranny is not in gear
.
You said something about your vb(valve body) being your culprit. Do you know exactly what was wrong with it. Mine was rebuilt and all of the revisions that were called for were done.
