alignment bolt for control arm DOA
alignment bolt for control arm DOA
Something you might not think to check when troubleshooting your loose front suspension. The forward bolt for the lower control arm has an inner and outer offset washer. On removal, I found that the splines that secure the outside washer under the bolt head were completely stripped, and the machined flat on the inside of the bolt to locate the inside washer was distorted as well. So essentially the axle was free to bang back and forth, with no obvious indication as to why. Furthermore, the horseshoe shaped bracket where the control arm bolt goes, was bent to hell at the bottom. I had to drill out the 4 spot weld that secure it, put it in a vice and beat it back into shape. The first picture is the outer, welded back into place. The second shows the inner, bent and waiting to be fixed. Hope my trouble may help spare someone a lot of headscratching later..
