? about Auto to NV4500 Conversion
I was thinking about converting my 97 Auto to a NV4500 5 speed. Will parts needed to convert it work from a 2000 Dodge Diesel. I found a good price on some used parts including the manuel transmisssion but they are all from a 2000. Will they work? Any help would be appriciated.
They will swap just fine except the clutch master cyliner. The clutch pedal assembly has a large steel thing that in order to remove and install the 2000 one you would have to pull your steering column or a lot of other stuff. However there is a pin that holds the pedals to this and if you pull the pin you can swap your brake pedal with the brake and clutch pedal off the 2000. Then you still have to put the master cylinder in. Your clutch assembly should have the hole for the master cylinder, however the 2000 MC used 2 bolts to hold it in place and in 97 they used a push and twist lock deal to hold it in place (not interchangable). Anyways moral of the story is if you want to save yourself about 2 hours of labor with the clutch pedal addition get a 97 master cylinder. The 2000 pedals will work just fine.
Now onto the good news. I know all this because i have a 2000 and got my clutch pedal assembly out of a 97. I later ordered a 2000 master cylinder and now i have a 97 master cylinder laying around. If you want it pm me and I will ship it over to you for the cost of shipping.
