96 12v engine knocking
Just a couple days ago I noticed an odd knocking coming from my motor. The truck is a 96 12v with 176k ok the motor; oil changed every 2500 miles and it has full/ normal oil pressure and the motor is full of oil. It started randomly out of no where with no issues prior. The sounds is coming from the passengers side of the motor around the turbo area. It is a distinct knocking sound. Idk if it is an injector or a lifter or even a rod. At times you can here it over the motor running noise. Starts and runs fine and drives completely normal, but I have stopped driving it because I don't want to damage anything. Oil pressure is normal and Rpms are normal. Any insight or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks I advance, Tom.

Lifter would be easy to check out, pull the valve covers and check the valve lash ( might as well set it while you are in there ).
Injector you can crack the lines at the Injector while running, if knock goes away when the cylinder doesn't fire, you know it is an Injector..
I highly doubt it is a rod, by the time you would hear the knock, I don't believe your oil pressure would be normal.
Also, Automatic or stick? If Auto, does the knock change when you put it in gear with the brakes on?

I am not sure if the knock goes away when warm as I haven't driven it enough to get warm. It is an automatic and again am not sure if t keeps knocking while in gear with brake on. Also I do have normal oil pressure.

I don't think it's a rod. It sound like it's coming from the front right. Sounds like a water pump? If a water pump goes would it make that clunking sound?

Remove serp belt and see if noise is gone, you can run engine for a few minutes without any problem. Exhaust leak can some times sound like a knock noise. Check for any blown out gaskets on the exhaust manifold or sooting on cylinder head by exhaust ports.

Good thought Iron, Tmello, when you look for an exhaust leak, get yourself a mirror and look at the underside of the exhaust manifold as well.......
Also, did you get my PM? LMK if you want me to call.
