95 Will not start
95 Will not start
This problem has seemed to come and go a few times the past week or so but now it will not start at all. Both my batteries have full power and all the connections seem to be tight and clean. When I go to turn the key in the ignition nothing happens at all. Not even a noise from the solenoid. I took out the starter and bench tested it and the solenoid engaged fine so I reinstalled the starter and the truck started right up. Then after i turned the engine off it will not start again and there is no sign of power getting to the starter when i turn the key. It may be the staer relay, where is this located?
well it was not the relay so I rebuilt the starter.... that did not get the truck started either. Luckily they forgot to quote me on the rebuild so they only charged me $40 to rebuild it! I have run out of possible problems in the system. The starter is getting power, the batteries are ok, the relay is new, the starter is now rebuilt and the connections are clean and tight..... what could i be missing? could it be at the ignition? remember when i turn the key NOTHING happens. you do not hear a sound of anything clicking or engaging so somewhere in the system something is wrong even though power is getting to the starter.
You need to check for power at the solenoid terminal. This will require a helper and a volt meter. Have the helper try to start the engine. At the same time you check for voltage at the solenoid terminal. You should read battery voltage when the igintion switch is held to start. Check the battery voltage first to have that reading as reference.
Do this with care as the engine may turn over or start.
It could be a bad ignition switch or a safety switch. The manual tranny has a clutch switch and the automatic has neutral start switch. If the safety switch is not made you get no power to the solenoid.
If it is automatic, move the shifter thru all the gears then try to start in park and neutral.
I will check tonight to see if I have the starting circuit schematic. If yes I can email it to you. 1995 and what model truck?
