94 NV4500 to 01 Auto swap questions
Hello Everybody,
I need some info on swapping transmissions. Here is the situation. I just picked up a 1994 2500 2X4 12V/NV4500 and 2001 2500 4X4 24V/Auto. After driving the 94 I really want to swap the nv4500 into my 01 as this is the truck I tow with. I know I will have to swap the output shaft and tail housing to make the NV4500 4X4 transmission. My main question is what do I need to do to make the 01 auto work behind the 94?
The reason for the swap is I am removing the body and shortening the wheel base of the 94 from 136” to 106” and putting on my 78 Dodge Ramcharger body on top of it. This will give me a stronger frame for the torque of the 12V. I know that I could have bought the 89-93 mounts and make it a bolt in, more or less, but that is not what I want. I am going to keep all of the 94 wiring and accessories of the 94 such as cruise control , ABS, airbag,(this might be the hard one) and such.
So what are your thoughts, Is the auto transmission going to be a bolt in deal? What else will I need to swap over, cooler, TCM, shift linkage?

Bolt in, yes, control of trans no.
After 95, the trans switched to a RE, electronically controlled. I do believe there is a standalone controller now, but they aren't cheap.
You can sell the 01 RE and get a 94/95 RH, then all it would take is a pair of pressure switches.....
