94-96 & 96-98 injection pump & engine difference?

I would like to start off with saying hello all.

I was wondering if I get a 94-95 engine what would it take to make it a 97-98?
Since it is hard for me to find this I might of found a 94-95 engine. I would like to update it to the 215 hp style. What would it take?

Thanks Joe

You will need a 215hp pump and 215 injectors.'94-'95 had either 160,175 and 180 pumps depending on trans.

Where are you in Pa?? The only major difference between the engines would be the injector pump. The 94-95 Dodges use 160-175 pumps and the 96-98 use the 180-215 pumps. The 160-175 pumps are sometimes looked down on, however a good fuel tune can see over 450HP with the smaller pumps. If you still want a 94-95 to 215 spec's you will need a injector pump off a 96-98 5sp.

Ok I was told that the piston rings were moved down on the piston after 96. would this concern you? if so why did they do this?

They lowered the rings in the bigger pumped engines to reduce stress cracks in the crowns......its not something you should worry about.

If you are swapping pumps for a bigger one would you be willing to sell me your smaller pump for the same price as the core charge? My truck smoked the pump about three weeks ago and I need it to get to and from work... The fuel costs from my fiancé going so far out of her way to take me to work are killing us As a disabled veteran I don't even have the $725 for a Pensacola Diesel rebuilt

PM me if you can help me
