What is the difference between these two trucks and what would you have to change to go from an 8800 lb rating to a 10,000 lb rating?

Pretty sure the difference is the Dually for the 10K. 8800 is the 3/4 ton single axle rating.

Kinda what I thought. I'd better pack some extra wheel bearings to take when we go up the ALCAN!

the D80 rear axle found in the stick shift trucks is rated at 12K. wont have to worry about overloading it. i dont know about a D70 used in autos.

I believe the axle is only rated for 7500LBs and the D70 is rated for 6084 from what I can find. Also D80 were used in all 3500's from what I understood.

ive read 3 articles on the dana series axles and all of them state the 80 is rated for 12K. but no tires for a pickup can take that kind of load in SRW format so dodge derates them to keep everything legal and safe.

That makes sense to me. My old Power Wagon had single wheel axles front and rear and it had a 10,000 lb rating. Yet tires won't hold that kind of weight for long!
