I ran mine turned up as seen in my sig for 6 months before upgrading the converter and vb, when I did the VB it had some metal in the pan but I think it was all from the stock converter. still holding well to this date!

I know a few parts are going to be upgraded. I'm looking for what hp levels people have had success with this trans.
joem- Do you know about what hp you are running?
Forgot to mention before, this will be a DD with mild towing on the weekend.

My stock 47RH had 107,000 miles on it when I upgraded to an ATS Stage IV. I was running a TST plate that gave me 600+ ft. lbs. of torque. Before the upgrade, the TC had started to slip just a little, and I really didn't want to get stranded on a trip, so I got the ATS. Best thing I ever did for my truck. BTW, I've got 310,000 on the truck now and the ATS has never let me down.

My truck dyno at 322 and after installed my low stall single disk billet TC I have no problems; The 47 RH has a shift kit installed years ago and gets regular fluid changes with filter. have 29000 Kl on it now and shifts great. I see 38 lb boost when I put my foot down , But I all ways ease up when the tranny makes a shift.

I have 75 hp injectors and the plate forward, and I take it easy on my stock 47RH. It doesn't feel like it will handle much more and stay strong. If you put 3-400 hp in front of it and expect to tow, go ahead and have the money saved to put a performance transmission in it.

If you can swing it, do it! A performance Trans rebuild will last a LONG time, and if done by a reputable and reliable company will not give you any headaches. I wouldn't go with any local trans rebuilder--lots of places say, "Oh yeah, we can rebuild that." And people have ended up with more problems. Many, many shops are great at rebuilding an ordinary automatic, but to do a performance rebuild on the 47RH and 47RE takes SOME experience. Now that said, some reputable performance companies will sell a kit, if you're good at rebuilding auto trannys. (I'm not)

Thanks for the input guys. I'm still looking for more numbers and success stories. I'll be rebuilding the trans with a few buddies. There's no pride in buying an already built trans. Even if I have to pull the trans out a few times to fix a glitch or two, I'm fine with that.

Call Dave Goerend, get his parts, put it together. Whatever he tells you it will hold, it will.
The last I knew they didn't even build transmissions there anymore, just parts to reputable tranny builders.
With a good TC, VB and rebuild parts package, you won't hurt it with 400 Hp.
