47RH issue... Big trip next week. HELP!
Ok here is my deal. My tranny recently has been acting funny. when its warmed up or cold it sometime wont shift into OD and sometimes just stays in 3rd. but if i play witht he gas i can get it to shift. Does it worse sometimes than others. Will do it randomly at times.
Now for the issue. I have a 700+ mile drive next week to Vermont. Rutland to be exact with a friend. I will be there for 2 weeks and then driving back. My truck just turned over 43k and sat for awhile before i bought it.
I took it into my local AAMCO today to have them look at it. Guy drove it around for about 30min and came back. He said from what i was telling him and what he noticed while driving it that it would need rebuilt
he quoted me around 2300 worst case. 1800 at the loswest. 2300 is rebuild everything and replace everything. The tranny would have a 1 year 12K warrenty on it.
He did not pull the pan but did check the fluid. It was red but with a slight black tint. but was not new by any means. He said he would not take it on the trip or drive it for that matter.
Im really tight on cash right now. My friend is covering my fuel for the enitre trip thats the reason im going. I plow with my truck so it will get rebuilt before the snow but i cant afford it right now.
Do you guys think i will be able to make the trip without any issue? I have not had and issue on the highway at all with the tranny is just around town.
Any help/advice would be great! Thanks guys!! BTW it the truck in my sig

You know how this goes, what ever you decide will be wrong. lol. If you get in trouble I am in Charlestown NH, about 40 miles from Rutland. PM me if you want a cell #. No OD sounds like solenoid problem to me.
Highly doubt your tranny needs rebuilding, steer clear of that place and don't be afraid to go on your trip.
Install a simple and easy OD lockup switch and see if it solves the problem.

If it solves the problem it is electrical, most likely the TPS or temp sensor.
Since you can get it to lockup by playing with the pedal it's probably the TPS.

Thanks guys. Make me feel better about it. The guy at the shop was really makin me feel uneasy about everything. They are the top trans shop here in town that everyone takes there stuff too so it kinda holds some weight.
I drove the truck about the rest of the day and did not have a lick of trouble with it. It just seems to be when i first drive it in the morning. but it does after the engine has at temp for 20+min.
I have not had a check engine light regarding the tranny since it got warm. But i did have one in the winter when snow would build up on the bottom of the tranny. it would say the temp sensor was not reading. But since it got warm out i have not had a code but have had the not shifting issue come up.
Im going to take the truck on the trip. But now im starting to wonder about this plow season and how its going to hold up. I will try and mess with the TPS and see if that changes anything.
Thanks again! if anyone else has any info that would be great!
Edit. BTW the truck is a gasser if it makes a diff.

If you do infact need a rebuild, don't waste your money on a stock trans rebuild. A good shop can put one together for you that will last and work much better. Aamaco, and those other jokers will tell you that it will work great, blah, blah, blah. I went thru 4 stockers before finally having one built for the truck. Well worth the extra $.

Thats what i planned on doing. I would really like to put a built trans in the truck but cant really find any for gassers. All the ones i find are for CTD's.
I check out the TPS today and that checks out right on the money at .8v
Dont know if i should try the lock up switch or not. Temp sensor does not throw a code but it has in the past.
Any good places to get built trans for a gasser?

Try adjusting the TV cable in one notch. Mine done the same thing I replaced the TPS and adjusted the TV cable it shifts perfect. By the way the former owner of my truck run it for over 80,000 miles that way. I added a triple disc converter and a TCI shift kit. And no probs so far.
I would get a new temp sensor if it has had problems in the past. You can buy them at the dealer if you need it right away or save some money and get one from rock auto.
Also, installing an overdrive and lockup switch like Infidel suggested will definitely make sure you get to your 700 mile destination with zero issue.

Call one of the reputable dodge tranny shops. I've never actually bought anything from Goerend because when I called him to get prices on a new tranny (shop told me I needed one) he called BS and told me to put in a new governor pressure solenoid. Anyways long story short, the reputable places get that way because they don't just sell you a tranny for no reason. They will actually help you figure out what's wrong and fix the problem is possible.
Sorry to bring this back to life i kinda forgot about lol. I made trhe trip no problem what soem ever and had been fine for the next month or so after.
But in the past oh 3 weeks the issue has gotten alot worse!
I have started a new job and i am thinking about just putting an after market trans and coverter in it and call it done. But i dont know what brand i should be looking at since my truck is a gasser.
SO here is my question. What is the best place to get a transand converter for my gasser 3/4 ton? And any tips por advice or things i shoudl try before go all out on a trans and coverter?
Thanks again guys!! you have been a great help!!!

Try changing the transmission fluid and filter. Drive it for about 500 to 1000 miles change it again including the filter. Don't forget to clean up the pan. That helped my shifting problems considerably.
