47re transmission

Temp is between 20 to 40 degrees and transmission will not shift out of second for about three miles than will shift into third and then overdrive. After it warms up it is fine. What gives?????

At what speed?
When was the last time the fluid AND filter were changed?
What is the profile of this truck?

we had luck with changing the fluid on ours. might even be temp switch.

thanks..will change oil and filter plus have computer check for any error codes

Actually that is normal operation. Trans does that to warm itself up.

My previous 97' and 98.5' would not shift into 4th or lockup the TC until the trans fluid was warmed up. After that just fine. If memory serves me right, the owners manual will tell you this.
