I’m new here and I have a 96 ram 3500 12valve with a 47re transmission. Transmission quit working so I bought on from a salvage yard out of a 2002. The new one doesn’t have the speedometer sensor in the tail shaft. What can I do to make it work correctly? Old transmission 96 3500 2wd New transmission from 02 3500 2wd
A '96 47RE and a 2002 47RE have the same name, but they are not interchangeable.
As you are finding out. IIRC the valve body and/or one of the other electric plug in are different and/or have more pins on the later model 47RE.
'98-'02s get the speedo info from the rear axle, not the transmission or T-case anymore..
I always recommend people research what they need and are buying before they buy it. This info. is out there.
My truck has a sensor in the rear differential with 2 wires running from it to the wiring harness in the dash. Is there any way to rewire it to make the speedometer work?
Dakota Digital makes a box that you can wire in between the ABS/VSS sensor and the speedometer. I suspect You will need to figure out how to interface that box to the PCM, as the PCM uses the VSS signal for trans & torque converter control.
