47RE rebuild?
47RE rebuild?
Hello All, I've been reading a lot of posts with people getting their auto trannys rebuilt at tranny shops and I have yet to find a post with someone who has done the rebuild themselves, are they that difficult to rebuild? I would like to try it myself and would like to hear from others who have done the rebuild.
Thanks
Thanks
I am interested in this also. I have seen several post from those who have done it them selves and seemingly successfully. I intend to do mine also as soon as I get the time. I have a factory manual and reading it I don't feel that its beyond doing your self. I think maybe there is some parts or procedures that an expert tranny builder knows that could be really useful. But even without them a DIY rebuild with upgraded parts has got to be better than stock.
Another member on here recently did one, not a 47RE, but the A518 is a relative.

They are not difficult to rebuild, get a good manual, but there are some special tools required to disassemble/assemble and set them up properly. And clean, clean work area cannot be stress enough. Do not skimp on the torque converter and valvebody, those 2 items make a huge difference in drive ability.
