47re Problem...A big one

I still cannot figure out what happened to my tranny. I was driving down the road, minding my own business and all of a sudden my transmission just shift and locked into gear, when I slowed it would not release out of gear and nearly stalled the truck till i shifted back into 2nd gear. It only happens when I put it in drive, the transmission will shift and lock into gear and not come out unless i put it in second gear. Every now and then It won't even shift into drive, but I am absolutly clueless...Any one else have this happen to them? I am short on cash so please don't say, call ATS, DTT, or Goerend Bros. Yes they are great, but i don't have 5k to spend.

Sounds to me like your lock-up solenoid is acting up on the PCM side of things.... Gotta figure out which one it is underneath but you can hot wire your solenoid by taking it to ground by toggle. My PCM has been burnt out for about 7 months now and I've been running toggles on my lock-up and OD ever since. If I do put a PCM in it I am sticking with manually flippin the switches because the shift points that are programmed into the PCM suck ****. If you want to hot wire it completely PM me and I'll tell you what wires to take to ground and you'll be all set. If you don't like that idea I would look into getting another PCM.

The above sounds right, if your PCM is the problem if you put power to pin 54 it will make the lockup solenoid stay unlocked, it may just be a simple short somewhere, but good luck finding it. I would follow the directions from this link, but instead of connecting it to a ground, connect it to a power source, and put a switch on it. heres the link:

I had this problem. It was a solenoid inside the tranny. I can't remember the exact name. A friend put a new one in. It was about a $85.00 part from dodge (wholesale).

What did you have to do to replace the solenoid. I have easy access to a lift and qualified tech's, is it an easy fix? Just remove the tranny pan or what? thanks alot guys...

Torque converter lock up solenoids. I had the same problem with mine, it got so bad I'd have to put it in neutral at stop lights.

Sounds to me like a ground problem maybe. You said it is not shifting also, this could all be related. Check the grounds first.

before you replace solenoids, test them. simply unhook, then apply 12v. they should click every time. problems may be bad connections.
