2 stroke oil

Hey I was talking to a neighbour of mine who has a 93 flatnose ctd he uses it to pull a trailer for a small cat and and he has a small back hoe. He bought it brand new has about 4 hundred and fifty k on it. He says he just uses 2stroke oil for fuel conditioner says it is better then any other additive. He does normal maintenance and the the truck runs great .Has any one else ever heard of using 2 stroke oil before.

Sure, increases the lubricity of the fuel which helps out the pump, especially with the newer low sulfer fuels. Sulfer is a lubricant. Now we have lower sulfer fuels which equals less lubrication to the pump. The synthetic stuff is the best and of course the most expensive. Go ahead and add some to each tank. Won't hurt a thing. Engine/pump may quite down a bit also. Kevin

I've heard of it, it will boost the cetane a little and help improve fuel lubricity a bit. It is often debated about the effect of burning oil, as they may cause ash to form or such. For what it is worth I ran 10% motor oil in my diesel for a little while this past year. It really quieted the motor down, seemed to add a little more pep to it too.

I don't believe the sulfur is the lubricant KD460, it seems like the process of removing the sulfur from the fuel is what removes the lubricant as it doesn't just get the sulfur.

The synthetic oil may be the best for lubricant but it is also supposed to smoke more than any others, granted this won't be a very high doseage of it so the problem may not arise.

I have used 2 stroke oil for some time, I was told to use T3C-W ashless dispersent synthetic.

I run it in my toyota diesel as well,

Does it help? who knows, does not seem to hurt though..

Cheers.

O/K- interesting topic...NOW how much do we add per tankfull? I'm guessing when you say synthetic we're talking about motorcycle style 2-stroke oil. I don't think NAPA has 2-stroke synthetic- OR do they?

Well the amount is up to you. Just as long as it is under 10% of the fuel tank capacity it shouldn't be a big deal. If you add a capful to each tank it may help lubricate the pump a little, if you add a gallon of it to every fill up it'd be a rather large cetane booster as well as a great pump lubricant (but the cost would be noticeable). To make a comparison, I use redline DFC and for every 20 gallons I add 3ozs of it to the tank so if the two were equal it'd be about 6ozs per fill up.

I was told to add 2 oz a tank by an old diesel mechanic. I have not tried to add any more than that...

Just use biodiesel. A 1% (1/3 gallon per tank) concentration increases lubricity by 60%

Wow, I didn't know it was that significant.

I use mercury marine 2 stroke oil as a additive. I add a couple of oz's on a tank full, engine runs nice fuel knock is gone and I don't have any trouble with it smoking. I also know one guy who runs atf in his 5 ton fuel say's it works good as well.

Yes, that biodiesel is good stuff. I run about 25% homebrew bio (because of cold temps-I run a higher percentage in the summer). Even at 25%, you notice a big sound decrease in the injection pump.

You can pick up gallon jugs of synthetic, semi synthetic and conventional 2 stroke oil at wal-mart! I used to use about 8 ounces per tank, but never did worry too much about anything a quart or under. (before I started using bio).

Good luck, Kevin

I ran tc3 in my old toyato turbo diesel4x4 for years, and in my dodge also , my seal in my pump starting leaking after a few tanks of low sulfur diesel. After I repaired the pump I used TC3 in the fuel until I gave the truck away. Years later. Jim
